About being brave…

Over a decade ago, my dearest friend moved halfway across the country — my fellow writer, fellow poet, fellow kindred spirit. As our lives grew and changed, we wrote letters back and forth. In one letter, addressing some new (though scary) opportunities I’d received, she ended her letter “Be brave and bloom”. I have never been the same since.

Sharing my art has been a terrifying thought, and yet, here we are…

be brave and bloom

About me…

I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina with a theology nerd dad and a Holy Spirit loving momma. Today,I live in San Jose, California with my worship pastor husband and our very needy black cat. I’ve spent the past eleven years in ministry and love teaching the Bible and shepherding others. Currently a seminary student, I hope to pursue a D. Min after my masters degree and publish some of my work.

Stories have always fascinated me, especially the great redemptive story of Scripture. I have also loved words for as long as I can remember. My own story involves a long struggle with mental health issues, and throughout this little corner of the internet you will find bits and pieces of that story. It can be scary to share, but sharing a story brings beauty from suffering. It only makes sense that I’ve arrived here…but I am so excited that you’ve arrived here too!
